This is zinc carbide. This is an ionic compound as it is composed of a metal (zinc) and a non-metal (carbon). Normally, transition metals need a roman numeral after it in order to convey the charge of the ion, but zinc is an exception. Finally, carbon is the only non-metal present, thus an ending of -ide will be tacked on at the end.
Putting the metal and the non-metal together with the suffix yields zinc carbide.

it’s zinc carbide,a normal ionic compound where metal and non-metal are allowed to react together,
i don’t know how it’s prepared, but the “odd” thing about the name is the -ide in the end,it’s not -ite nor
-ate,because there are no oxygen atoms present.as:
Mg3N2 magnesium nitride
Mg(NO2)2 magnesium nitrite
Mg(NO3)2 magnesium nitrate
and the same thing works on carbon.
hope i helped =)
