The ‘You & I’ singer also hits out at “celebrities” in a new rant posted on Twitter this week.
Lady Gaga took to Twitter last night to reveal the true meaning behind her recent hit ‘Applause’, while asking people to remember the difference between “celebrities” and “artists”.
The ‘Marry The Night’ singer claims that the message behind her lead single from new album ‘ARTPOP’ is all about making her audience happy and allowing her music to live on by being remembered by people.
“‘Applause’ is a very meaningful song to me because it addresses what many think of ‘celebrities’ today,” Gaga explained on Twitter last night (18th September). “That we ‘do it’ for the attention.
“But some of us are ‘artists’ in this group called ‘celebrity’ & what we create doesn’t live on unless there’s an audience to remember it,” she tweeted. “So I may need your attention first, so I can sing you my song.
“But it’s the ‘Applause’ after that let me know if I’ve entertained you,” she continued. “Entertainment makes people happy, I live for the ‘Applause’, to know that I’ve spread that.
“I live to hear you cheer, to just be a part of that, I believe in show business.
“The ‘Applause’ is what breeds the thing that I love,” Gaga added. “When I know I’ve made you happy, when I know it was good.”
